Category Descriptions
Setup, Arm Swing & Circle
Slight lean when going back in arm swing, we want to stay neutral and straight back and forward to not create unwanted twist to our circle/spin. Arm swing is nice and long, but locked out- we want to keep it bent and loose for more whip at the end not totally locked out, we lose power there. Load is ok, by going low you are losing the power in your glutes and not transferring it into the start of the pitch at all, just going down and coming back up. We want to use that energy in our legs to drive us out forward, not just a wasted up and down motion. test
The “Setup” is where the pitcher approaches the pitching circle with a positive, relaxed frame of mind ready to pitch a strike. The pitcher should be balanced and in a comfortable, athletic stance while standing in the circle and getting the signal from the catcher. The feet can be staggered and body positioning can vary. The "Arm Swing" should go backwards quickly, loosely, and the same speed with the ball facing towards either first or second base for the RHP. The arm will then reverse and do a full "Arm Circle" in a north/south direction while turning the hips away from the catcher.
Rock Back & Leg Drive Forward
Momentum could be used better, you are just bending over and coming straight back up then pitching. Try to lean more into your glutes back a little then DRIVE those hips forward. Thinking with your hips is easier than thinking with your glutes sometimes, think drive hips towards the catcher to really engage your glutes and blast off the mound better! Right idea just not putting it all together yet. Your leg drive forward is ok but your front leg is kinda locked out. If you keep that leg more bent and drive forward with your knee more than your foot it’ll bring your body through more aggressively.
The pitcher should "Rock Back" her weight onto the back foot. The "Leg Drive" happens immediately after the backswing of the arm circle. The back leg lifts up, extends out towards home plate and should get as much height as possible with the glove hand above it going towards the target. The push foot should be loaded like a sprinter. The upper body should tilt forward to create a better explosion. Both arms and stride leg should all explode together, helping to use all energy to drive off the rubber.
Direction & Timing of Getting Open
This looks good! I think after your load and everything you do end up getting out in a good direction and timing looks solid. I think we could still get you off the mound better and stronger with those other fixes. If you could drive those hips a little better you’d cover more ground before turning to get open and have more whip throughout the whole body to transfer into the end of your circle/pitch for overall more speed and whip.
Getting Open with the hips is important to being able to use all of the leg strength. The leg drive should be in a direct line towards the target. As the front leg launches forward, the hips must snap or rotate open so that the front side is in line with the catcher.
Transfer & Finish
You have a great finish and your back leg finished through all the way. Do you notice that you’re twisted like you kick your back leg back behind your body? If you could drive that right quad/knee to finish more towards the catcher you’d have a more solid finish and more speed. I think “closing the door” better and harder with that back knee slamming closed towards the catcher. Really good use of your glove hand/side, though. You actively and aggressively throw it out and pulpit back in which helps the backside same shut pretty good.
The ball should be released near the back hip at the same time the stride foot lands.The pitching arm should be very close to the hip, possibly brushing it as it goes past. The body's weight should be mostly on the back leg to create a whip of the pitching arm at release. The arm circle should move twice as fast as the legs. The push off foot should "Drag"towards the catcher in a narrow S or C like shape. The drag should be light and quick without digging a huge trench in the clay. The back foot should drag all the way to the stride foot without touching the feet together. When the front leg drives out, the back leg must drive at the same speed forward. Snapping the hips with the completed leg drive at release will "Finish" with more power. The pitcher MUST rotate the back side and finish each pitch.
Pitching Agressiveness
Overall, we need to get you blasting off the mound better. Your end is solid, but can be even more aggressive if you explode off the mound better. Think “use the ground.” How do you use the ground when you try to jump high? Same concept.. try to translate that into your start. Use the ground to explode off of the mound forward, then slam it all shut at the end. Combining those together is true power. Figure out how to get that start working better for you and you’re getting close!
The Overall Aggressiveness grade for a pitcher is very important as it tells the story of how a pitcher trains and gets after their work to make themselves better. An Aggressive pitcher will always take advantage of learning more about their game, and work hard to perfect their mechanics and pitches. This grade also shows the coaches who wants to pitch and who doesn’t. Be aggressive every time you get on the mound and show the coach that you are there to learn and try your best. The goal here is to have "Plus" or higher grades here.

Fastball Velocity
How fast a pitch is traveling during flight as it is released from the pitchers throw arm and travels towards home plate, measured in miles per hour (MPH). Higher velocity means the ball gets to the batter faster and requires quicker reaction by the batter.
Fastball Spin Rate
The rate at which the ball spins during flight, measured in rotations per minute (RPM). Another definition of Spin Rate would be the average spin rate of the ball as it travels from the point of release until it is caught. Spin rate is measured in RPMs (revolutions per minute).
Curveball/Slider Velocity
How fast a pitch is traveling during flight, measured in miles per hour (MPH). Higher velocity means the ball gets to the batter faster and requires quicker reaction by the batter. Changing pitch speeds, for example by mixing up fastballs and change-ups that have 5-10 mph difference in speed, can help to keep a batter off balance.
Changeup Velocity
This velocity reading basically tells the pitcher how much their Change-up speed varies from their Fastball velocity and also gives the change-up a chance to drop or sink after it has left the pitcher's hand and crosses the plate.

The main goal when working on your game is to have "PLUS" mechanics and not only did you accomplish that goal, but you have surpassed it. College and possibly Pro Potential. In the MLB Scouting world, they call this "Above Average" or a "Plus" delivery. Nice job in putting a very nice looking delivery together here. There are obviously always things you can do to improve, so pay attention to the videos that are recommended here to help your delivery advance. Great job here!


High School Player/College Potential. Very nice looking pitching delivery. It's good to know as a pitcher that you have a nice AVERAGE delivery, but there are pieces here in your delivery that can improve, so work hard and focus on the areas of your delivery here that have been identified that are not well above average (6+). Keep working hard, great job!


Middle School, High School Player. You have some really good qualities in your pitching delivery, and then there are areas that you need to improve in. Practice what you are being taught by your coaches and learn from the comments in your evaluation here. We know you can improve here with hard work. You can achieve anything!


Middle School Recreational/JV,Freshman High School Player. Looks like there are some good things happening and there are categories in your delivery we need to improve on to help you be the pitcher you want to be. Take one category of your pitching delivery at a time, and then go out and practice hard for a few days on that "one" piece of your delivery. Keep things simple here and only work on the one part of your delivery to make it better. Then move on to the next category and do the same thing. One thing at a time. Move down your list in your scouting report here and practice-practice-practice. Your hard work will pay off!

Recreational Player. So, we have some work to do to climb out of the POOR category here and begin your journey to get better. The best way to get better in anything you do in life is to understand what you need to work on and accept that you need to work hard to get better. So, lets get better. Take it one category at a time and practice that one lesson and part of your delivery until you feel like you've mastered it. Then and only then, move on to the next lesson or part of your pitching motion. Takes time and practice to perfect it. We believe in you and so we want you to believe in yourself. You can do this!
