Footwork & Approach
AVERAGE
Good side shuffle
An infielder's "footwork" should be quick and fluid in all directions. Good foot position allows you to be balanced with momentum to the ball. Reading the bounce of the ball (high hop, ground-hugger, hard/slow hit) is key while using small steps to make adjustments.
Fielding Mechanics & Glove
AVERAGE MINUS
Stays low. Hands present late
The infielder should have a low balanced stance with the glove open and ready. The feet should be shoulder-width and the body low enough where the back of the glove can touch the ground. The ball should be caught in the middle of the body or slightly to the throwing arm side, with the glove extended outward.
Transfer & Arm Action
BELOW AVERAGE PLUS
Throws uphill. No momentum. Pulls off follow through
Once the ball is cradled to the chest, step with your glove side foot and shuffle towards your target while turning the hips and shoulders. The ball should be grabbed quickly from the glove with the throwing hand without making a long circular loop. A diagonally-down follow through should complete the throw forward. Be sure to extend your throws and have a good follow through.
Overall Infielder Aggressiveness
BELOW AVERAGE PLUS
Tentative with slow reads
The Infielder's Overall Aggressiveness is very important. An aggressive fielder is fun to watch, plays hard every time, and sets themselves up to make great plays. The key is to have a grade of “Plus” or higher in this category. Stay Aggressive!

8
DI/All-American/Pro Standout. Your infield skills are OUTSTANDING and now it's all about the fine tuning and staying consistent throughout your baseball journey. Work hard to keep what you have! Great job here!
7
DI/All-American/Pro Player. Excellent job here. You're on your way to OUTSTANDING. The main goal when working on your game is to have "PLUS" mechanics and not only did you accomplish that goal, but you have surpassed it. Now reach for the Gold, and keep working hard on your game to achieve ultimate greatness in achieving all "8's", a Perfect Score!
6
DI/All-American/Pro Potential. In the MLB Scouting world, we call this "Above Average" or "Plus". Nice job in putting a very nice-looking infield game together here. There are obviously always things you can do to improve, so pay attention to the scouts comments that are recommended here to help your game advance. Great job here!
5
High School Player/College Potential. Very nice-looking infielding skills. It's good to know as a player that you have a nice AVERAGE infield game, but there are pieces here in your game that can improve, so work hard and focus on the areas that have been identified that are not "Plus" (6+). Pay attention to the scouts comments and work hard. You can do this!
4
Middle School, High School Player. You have some really good qualities in your game, and then there are areas that you need to improve in so pay attention to the scouts comments to learn from, and go out and practice what you are being taught. I know you can improve here from BELOW AVERAGE with hard work, and believe you can achieve anything!
3
Middle School Recreational/JV,Freshman High School Player. Looks like there are some good things happening and there are categories in your BELOW AVERAGE MINUS game we need to improve on to help you be the infielder you want to be. Take one category of your game at a time, read the scouts comments, and then go out and practice hard for a few days on that "one" piece of your game. Then move on to the next category and do the same thing. Your hard work will pay off!
2
Recreational Player. So, we have some work to do to climb out of the POOR category here and begin your journey to get better. The best way to get better in anything you do in life is to understand what you need to work on and accept that you need to work hard to get better. So, let’s get better. Take it one category at a time and read the scouts comments in each category, and then go out and practice that one lesson and part of your game one category or part at a time until you feel like you've mastered it. Rome wasn't built in a day, so realize that your outfield game will not just magically be great overnight. Takes time and practice to perfect it. You can do this!
